We are Brunswick County Computers 4 Kids and associated with Brunswick County, North Carolina. Our mission is to recondition donated PCs and provide them to students in the County that do not have home computers. We were formed in 2006 after the need for many more home computers was identified by the Brunswick County Volunteer Center. We were fortunate to receive an initial grant from ATMC to get started. The next issue was space. For our first 5 years Brunswick Community College provided us space. When they needed that space for growth, Brunswick County offered us our current space in Building F, Room 106. Without their support we never would have got off the ground or been able to continue. We started with only two volunteers but have grown to nine volunteers. We are generally open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM to 3 PM. Summer Hours Wednesday and Thursday, June, July, August, 9 AM – Noon.
Our laptops and desktops come totally from donations from individuals, businesses and local and county governments. As many of our donated systems require updated or new components, we rely on service organizations and personal financial donations/grants to refurbish the systems. The teachers and administrators have been wonderful in identifying the kids/families in need. Once identified, C4K drops off the system at the school. As of June, 2019, we have delivered over 2,900 computers for needy students in Brunswick County.
In this day and age it is hard to imagine a child keeping pace without a computer and internet access. We will continue to our part in providing free working systems to our kids.
